Zhu Lin is a London-based ceramic artist with a background in sculpture.
Her sculptural background continues to shape the way she works with clay. At the centre of her practice is an exploration of form: how it moves, shifts, and relates to the space around it.
Her work moves between ceramic sculptures and functional objects for everyday use. Although different in purpose, both begin with the same interest in form and are developed intuitively through the hands.
Working primarily through hand-building, Lin combines different ceramic techniques in an ongoing process of experimentation, gradually developing her own language of form.
She works mainly with black and white clay and simple slips, keeping the surfaces restrained so that the form itself remains central.
ZL Studio is her working studio in Dalston, London, where she develops her practice and hosts occasional ceramics workshops.
